Lanco organizes cancer screening camp at Sirwani


MANGAN, 07 Feb:  A daylong cancer screening camp was organized here at Sirwani near Singtam on 04 Feb by Lanco Foundation, a division of hydel project developer [Teesta Stage VI] Lanco which carries out the Corporate Social Responsibility activities of the parent organization. The cancer screening camp was held in collaboration with CELON LABS. Last Friday marked the World Cancer Day.
Around 80 people benefited from the screening camp, coming in from around 10 nearby villages like Dochung, Sirwani, Dipudara etc.  The camp was attended by General Manager Lanco, SK Sarkar and AGM, Satish Tomar, paramedical team, officials from Lanco and the general public.
Screening for breast cancer was held for women above the age of 45 years and oral cancer screening for men above the age of 50. Dr. Basab Sarkar, a cancer specialist from North Bengal Medical College conducted the screening.
An awareness session was also held before the screening camp during which Dr. Sarkar shared tips on cancer, its causation and precautions. He informed people of the symptoms and explained common cancers like those of blood, lungs and head/neck cancer.
Dr. Sarkar also informed that around 70 to 80% of the breast cancer cases can be cured as could other cancers if they were detected in time.
