BRO Director General calls on Governor and CM


GANGTOK, 07 April [IPR]: Director General, Border Roads Organisation, Lt. Gen S. Ravi Shankar, accompanied by Brig. Rajiv Sawhney, Chief Engineer, Project Swastik, called on Governor BP Singh at Raj Bhawan and Chief Minister Pawan Chamling at Mintokgang yesterday.
During his meeting, the Governor asked the Director General to restore the “region’s pride” in NH 31A and connecting roads to North Sikkim. He further requested the BRO authorities to get in touch with locals to understand problems faced by them and their requirements while working on roads in the State, a press communiqué received from the PRO to the Governor informs.

The Director General assured that the pace of constructing and repairing of roads will be accelerated. He further stressed that there were no fund constraints and that Project Swastik will recruit maximum staff and labour and procure the latest equipment for upgradation and proper maintenance of Sikkim roads.
Lt. Gen Ravi Shankar also sought the Governor’s blessings and guidance in all future endeavours of Project Swastik, the release adds.
The Director General then called on the Chief Minister at his official residence last evening.
During this meeting, a power-point presentation was also made by a BRO engineer on the comprehensive report on the works undertaken by the BRO in the state like alternative highway, works on NH31A and Rangpo Viaduct, areas of concerns, the works in progress along JN Road to Nathula and the work in progress in North Sikkim.
During the meeting, the BRO DG expressed his satisfaction to Mr. Chamling on how the BRO has been fortunate to have received such serene and secure environment to work in here, which, he said, has led to fast progress in the works undertaken by them in the state.
The DG also informed the Chief Minister how he was constantly in touch with the heads of various departments here to get the clearance and other works done in time.
On the other hand, the Chief Minister, after the presentation, assured the Director General of full cooperation from his government.
Discussions on how soon the alternative highway can become a reality for Sikkim were also held.
The DG also presented Mr. Chamling with a memento from the BRO.
