Class IX student run over in Namchi

NAMCHI: A class IX student, on her way home from school, was hit by a private van bearing registration No. SK-02A/1756 at Jorethang Road here around 3:45 pm on Monday.
According to eye witnesses, the incident took place in front of a hardware store where the vehicle was parked on the footpath. As the girl was moving around the vehicle, she came under the front wheels of the van.
The victim, Nisha Tamang, was rushed to the Namchi Hospital from where she was referred to Siliguri. She is in a critical condition, it is informed.

A case has been registered at Namchi Police Station under Section 279, 338 of the IPC against the driver Nim Tempa Sherpa, 21, a resident of Upper Phalidara, South Sikkim.
It may be recalled here that the beautification of Namchi that includes construction of tiled footpaths in and around Namchi bazaar had been sanctioned but the construction on Jorethang road had not yet been completed. The footpath in front of this hardware store is under construction and furthermore, there are many hardware shops and hotels along Jorethang Road where vehicles are parked, despite rules against it, to load materials and thus blocking the footpath.
