DB Subba Memorial TT tourney gets underway with more than 200 paddlers


GANGTOK, 15 April: More than 200 participants have signed up for in the fourth edition of Late DB Subba Memorial Inter-School Table Tennis Championship started here at Paljor Stadium indoor gymnasium on Friday.
The three-day tournament was inaugurated by the STTA president, CK Basnet, and has been organized by the Sikkim Table Tennis Academy, Tadong, under the aegis of the STTA.

Matches in the first round of the tournament were played on the inaugural day.
More than 200 participants from across the state are taking part in various categories of cadet, sub-junior, junior and open.
The Director of the Sikkim Table Tennis Academy, BB Subba, has been organizing this tournament every year since 2007 in the memory of his late father.
Mr Subba stated that the main objective behind organizing this tournament is to promote table tennis in the state and to provide a state level platform to players from across the state to test their talents.
He informed that from this edition onwards an inter-school category has been added to the tournament to promote the table tennis in the schools.
“We want every school to include table tennis so that it becomes more popular in the schools”, Mr Subba adds.
At present, around 30 children are undergoing training at the academy.
The tournament will conclude on 17 April. The winners will be provided with the medals and trophies.
