USFC battles fights back from two goals down to draw match with Lajong FC


GANGTOK, 02 May: United Sikkim Football Club [USFC] continues its battle to secure its first win in the final round of the second division I-League. On a positive note though, the team has not lost a match in this round thus far. Playing its third match of the final round on Sunday, it climbed its way back from two goals down to end the game level at 2-2.
A crucial match against one of the best club is of the north-east Shillong Lajong FC, ended with the score level, 2-2, at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shillong, on Sunday.

The match was played neck-to-neck, with Lajong FC receiving full crowd support.
With a goal by James Giblee in the 15th minute, Lajong took an early lead and USFC’s woes increased in the 60th minute Seikhohao Tuboi extended the lead for Shillong Lajong.
USFC fought back and broke through in the 69th minute when Beikhokhei scored a beautiful goal with a long range shot. In 88th minute a golden opportunity was served in a form of a penalty lack but unfortunately the shot by Johnny D Meyongar was stopped by the Lajong goalkeeper.
However, Johnny converted a perfect pass of Bhaichung into the equalizer in injury time of the match.
Speaking over the phone, the USFC senior manager, Arjun Rai, mentioned that the team played very confidently and did well under pressure and cent percent crowd support for Shillong team.
He mentioned that it was very unfortunate for the team that its third match had also ended in a draw despite a good game against one of the best clubs of the north east, Lajong FC was recently relegated from the I-League.
He added that it was very unfortunate for the club that many good opportunities and even a penalty were missed in the match otherwise the club could have registered its first win in the round.
The senior manager appreciated the game by Bhaichung as a stopper as well as striker in the match.
“For 60 minutes Bhaichung played as a stopper, and then changed his position as striker and made good attacks”, Mr Rai informed.
Nim Tshering Lepcha led the team as the captain and Tshephel Bhutia contributed well to the crucial match for the team.
He informed that it had been raining heavily since early morning till afternoon and the match was played in a slushy ground.
USFC has its next match against Mohammedan Sporting on 4 May.
Shillong Lajong FC is still on the top in the round and the USFC is on fourth place with its three drawn matches in a row, while Vasco Sports Club is on second and Arhima Club is on third position.
