Govt’s arrival to their remote village thrills West Sikkim GPUs

TASHIDING, 09 June: After completing his round of South district, the Chief Minister resumed his village-to-village tour with West Sikkim, starting with the Yuksom-Tashiding constituency today. Under the Sikkim Bhraman underway, the CM is taking along his Cabinet and Heads of Departments in a tour aimed at reaching the Government to the doorsteps of the people, taking spot appraisals of various schemes on ground and collecting the aspirations and grievances of the people with the aim to resolve as many as possible on the spot.
Today, after travelling for several hours, the CM made first halt was at Yangtam on the upper ridge of Reli Chu, where people from 11 wards under Mangder-Karzee GPU and Narkhola-Dhupidara GPU had gathered.

Narkhola, Dhupidara, Pokhari, Yangtam, Karzee, Rungdung and its adjoining villages are amongst the remotest parts of West Sikkim and many people in the area have yet to set foot in Gangtok, so it was a rare chance for them to meet the Chief Minister and confer with him face to face.
Addressing the gathering, the CM explained that since it was not possible for everyone to come to the capital, he had brought along the government to the people “to know the ground realities of the villages and understand their grievances with and views on the development of the state”.
He assured to work on all pending works in the area and addressing the officials, said that their accompanying him was so that they took “serious note” of the required works to be undertaken in the area.
While encouraging people to be self-reliant, he assured all possible help to such people by way of government loans and other government schemes.
Speaking to students, the CM urged them to inculcate a competitive edge in order to face the challenges of the world and not be satisfied with mere certificates. He also mentioned that it is the joint responsibility of students, teachers, the department and the society at large to improve education in the state.
Addressing the people’s demands, he directed the department to immediately start work on the widening and carpeting of the Labdang-Phamtam road. It may be mentioned here, that the demand for the said road had remained unaddressed for over a decade now. He further directed the concerned department to identify problem-spots in the surrounding roads and place a comprehensive report to the government.
He announced today that he will return to Labdang after 6 months over the road commission by him today from Rabongla, via Phamtam.
The District Administration, in turn, was directed to prepare a list of beneficiaries under the land bank scheme, acquire the land and put up the proposal including financial requirements to the Land Revenue Department immediately.
During the interaction with the public, the CM also sanctioned various schemes like VLW centre at Upper Karzee, PHSC at Karzee, ICDS centre at Mangder, development of view point at Rangdong falls, to mention a few.
The people of Mangam-Karzee and adjoining areas recorded their happiness over the CM’s visit along with the entire government machinery to the remotest villages of West Sikkim.
It was a rare chance for some people of the area to see and interact with the CM who received a warm welcome from the people.
The CM said he was in the area to ensure quality completion of developmental works and to interact with the people and understand what development meant to them.
He urged the people not to tolerate injustice and speak out against denial and shoddy delivery. This, he said, was the only way to break the cycle of injustice.
He informed the people that 16 acres has been acquired by the government in Labdang to build a traditional marketing centre, office, panchayat ghar, culture centre, garden and parks, tourist interest points and other infrastructure.
