Jagannath Rath Yatra take out at Thakurbari

GANGTOK, 03 July: People from in and around the capital participated in the Rath Yatra here at Thakurbari complex today. The Rath Yatra celebration, organized by the Shri Jagannath Sanskrutika Samiti, was also joined by the HRD Minister, NK Pradhan.
On the occasion, the presiding deities, Lord Jagannath, Lord Balaram and Goddess Subhadra, with the celestial wheel Sudarshan, were taken out from the temple in an elaborate ritual procession to the chariot. The decorated chariot was then drawn by the devotees in the courtyard.

Shri Jagannath Sanskrutika Samiti has been celebrating Rath Yatra and Bahuda Yatra in the state every year since 1986.
The Samiti has also expressed its gratitude towards the people of Sikkim for their constant support in celebrating the festival in its right spirit.
Meanwhile, the annual Jagannath Rath Yatra at Puri, where the main observance is held, attracted lakhs of devotees to pull the three chariots from Jagannath to Gundicha temple.
The history of Lord Jagannath Rath yatra in Puri is more than a thousand years old. And all these years what has not changed much is its religious fervor, tradition, rituals and grandeur. Perhaps that is the reason why this festival is still very popular among its devotees which attracts more than a million of them every year to Puri on this occasion.
