Resettlement & Rehabilitation Committee notified for Sikkim Univ land acquisition

GANGTOK, 05 July: The State Government has constituted a “Resettlement and Rehabilitation Committee” for the land acquisition process of Sikkim University to come at Yangyang in South Sikkim. The Committee will be headed by Secretary, Land Revenue & Disaster Management Department [LR&DMD] as commissioner of the Supervisory Body. He will be assisted by a representative of Sikkim University as a member.

This is being done, a notification issued on 27 June explains, as per the direction contained in the Environment Clearance [dated 04 August 2006] issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forest directing that a monitoring committee for Resettlement and Rehabilitation is required to be constituted as per National Policy of Rehabilitation and Resettlement 2003, which must include representatives of project affected persons.
The Notification also appoints the South District Collector as Administrator of the Implementation Body of the Committee. He will be accompanied by MLA, Rangang-Yangang constituency, Zilla Adhakshya, South, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Ravangla, a representative official of Sikkim University, DK Rai [Panchayat President, Yangang-Rangang GPU], Branch Manager, State Bank of India, Yangang, Karma Subba, NGO member [Yangang Cultutal Village Tourism Co-operative Society], CL Gurung, and Rinchen Wangdi Bhutia [local gentries] and Panchayat President of Sripatam-Gagyong GPU as members.
The Notification further declares Ravangla Sub-Division as project affected zone and under this Sub-Division, Yangang, Rangang villages are declared as project affected villages. The tenure of the Committee shall, initially, be for two years from constituted date, it added.
