Sikkim Nagrik Yuwa Samaj lashes out against SU VC

GANGTOK, 14 July: Sikkim Nagarik Yuwa Samaj, Tadong, has alleged that the Sikkim University Vice Chancellor was to blame for dragging the University into controversy and making the institution an “unpleasant topic of discussion”.
A press release issued by the publicity secretary, SNYS, Anup Thatal, has also alleged that “antisocial elements” were fuelling the controversy with “their irrational arguments” directed solely to embarrass the government and were issuing statements without gathering proper information on the issue at hand.

SNYS has contended that the “public” has been watching the VC’s actions, especially the appointment of outsiders in the University in large numbers, brow-beating of rural folk, denial of affiliation to state government colleges, harassment of students at the time of admission etc.
The release further states that if the VC was serious about working in the interest of Sikkim and its people, then he must come up with the solution to resolve the matter. SNYS has also demanded that that VC stop encouraging “antisocial elements from playing unhealthy politics” by leveraging Sikkim University.
“Every programme of University should be in the interest of the Sikkimese people and the students here. The University should give preference to locals, be it in education or the appointment of staff,” the release adds.

  2. in the first place i fail to understand why a person from darjeeling has been appointed as the VC of SU.....are we short of talent in Sikkim?
Get rid of Mahendra P. Lama paila and then we can have someone from Sikkim in his place, we need to employ our people first and then that person can appoint our people to vacancies, we need to reduce our unemployment.
