YODESS holds seminar on biodiversity conservation at Dalapchan Gurung Gumpa

Dalapchand, 04 July: A seminar on Biodiversity Conservation was held at Rinchen Dorjee Choling Gumpa (Gurung Gumpa) Seda Conference hall yesterday, organised by Youth Development Society of Sikkim (YODESS) Rongli, East Sikkim and supported by ENVIS Centre Sikkim, Department of Forest, Enviroment and Wildlife management, informs a press release.

YODESS vice-coordinator cum Teacher, TN Poudyal spoke on climate change, deforestation, social fencing, village sanitation and Chipko movement. Dalapchand Panchayat Secretary, MK Rai and RO (T) Rongli Sub-Division, Satish Chandra Vasistha also spoke on environment conservation.
YODESS also planted about 200 saplings of ornamental, pine and flowering plants in and around the Gurung Gumpa, the release informs. The programme was conducted by Gumpa coordinator Sarju Gurung.
The programme was also attended by Panchayat Manju Rai, president Bouda Sanskar Sudar Samiti Gurung Gumpa president JB Gurung, YODESS joint secretary Ajay Gurung, VLW NB Gurung, senior citizen CB Gurung along with local Farmers Club, SHGs, Gumpa monks and villagers.
