Pang Lhabsol at Rabong to feature felicitation of local artists

GANGTOK, 25 Aug: The Pang Lhabsol Celebration Committee [PLCC], Rabongla, is working on a war-footing in preparation for Pang Lhabsol festivities at Kagyud Thekchenling Monastery from 10 to 12 September.
The curtain raiser of the festival is scheduled for 05 September with an important annual highlight of the festival, the Open Volleyball tournament, which carries a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh for the winners and Rs 1 lakh for the runners-up.
The special prayers of Pang Lhabsol will start on 09 September at the monastery.
Regarding the preparation and highlights of the festival, a PLCC press conference was held today, addressed by its joint secretary, Zigmi D Bhutia, advertisement secretary, Bhawani Gurung and members, Karma Choda Bhutia and Prakash Sharma.
It was informed that a new attraction added to the celebration is the felicitation of local artists who have made substantial contributions to the state.
“Another attraction is the magazine and a documentary on Pang Lhabsol festival, which is scheduled to be released after the festival, as we are trying to take this festival to the international level,” Mr Bhutia said. 
This time, a theme song on the festival has also been prepared by CL Gurung of Deythang.
It was further informed that there will be musical presentations by local bands of Rabongla, Namchi and surrounding areas from 05 September onwards every evening. Likewise, rural sports will be inaugurated on 10 September and open marathon will be held on the inaugural day.
The PLCC will felicitate Sikkim artists on 10 September and there will be presentation by these artists as well.
On 11 September, the head of Old Ralong Monastery, Sangter Tulku Rimpoche, will be distributing wang to the devotees at the venue of the celebration and in the evening, renowned artist from Nepal, Babu Bogati, and local band Still Water are scheduled to perform.
On the final day of the celebration, Pangtoed cham [Warrior Dance] will be performed along with other presentations and the final match of the Volleyball tournament. In the evening, there will be performances by renowned artist, Junu Rizal Kafley and local band Girish n the Chronicles.
The celebration committee has also planned to organise an essay-writing competition for schools under Ravangla sub-division.
Apart from these presentations and competitions, there will be exhibition stalls of different government departments and non-governmental organisations.
They informed that the committee has also approached various travel agencies around the country to bring people from all parts of the world to the celebration.
The committee is trying to bring the Chief Minister on the final day of the festival as the chief guest.
The celebration committee has RMDD Minister, CB Karki, as the chief patron, area MLA, Sonam Gyatso Bhutia, as the chairman, president of Old Ralong Monastery committee, NT Bhutia as the chief advisor and a member of the State Planning Commission, TW Bhutia as the advisor.
