CM hands over cheques to fund new monasteries at Hee-Gyathang and Namok-Swayam

GANGTOK, 07 Sept: Chief Minister Pawan Chamling today presented a cheque each to the Duchee Committees of Hee-Gyathang Monastery and Namok Swayam Monastery for the construction of new monasteries in their respective areas when representatives of the two Duchees called on the CM at Mintokgang this morning.
A total of Rs. 75,00,000 was sanctioned for Hee-Gyathang and Rs. 25,00,000 was sanctioned for Namok, informs an official press release.
The said funds were sanctioned under the Tribal Sub Plan scheme 2009-10 through Cultural Affairs & Heritage Department, the release adds.
Minister for Cultural Affairs & Heritage Department, Sonam Gyatso Lepcha, Secretary CA&HD, DR Kharel, and other officials of the Department were present for the presentation. While handing over the cheques, the Chief Minister advised all the public and panchayats of Hee-Gyathang and Namok Swayam to care for and preserve the traditional houses instead of replacing them with concrete structures, the release informs.
The Panchayats and the public of Hee-Gyathang and Namok Swayam expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister for providing funds for the construction of the monasteries and also for showing keen interest for the future development in North Sikkim, the release further mentions.
