Choppers keep busy, evacuate 156 people

GANGTOK, 30 Sept: Pawan Hans helicopters flew 36 sorties from Mangan on Friday, flying to Chungthang, Lachen and Lachung, reaching and evacuating people and personnel. The two helicopters evacuated 101 people from different locations today.
Similarly, Army spokespersons, Col Ravi Patil informed that army helicopters evacuated 25 people, mostly NDRF personnel, from Chungthang to Gangtok. Among those evacuated from Chungthang were 19 NDRF personnel and one pregnant lady.
He further informed that in addition, a six-member team of doctors was also brought back to Gangtok from Chungthang.
Likewise, nine people were evacuated from Dzongu [8 from Saffo and 01 from Sakyong] and 21 from Lachen to Gangtok in army helicopters today.
Col Patil informed that 3 experts comprising of a Seismologist and structural engineers from IIT Roorkee were today flown to Lachung from Chungthang.
He added that on the state administration’s request, a large generator was also moved to Lachen from Mangan for the restoration of power supply in the area and 2 technicians with equipment and other materials were also airlifted to Lachung.
Likewise, army choppers also dropped 3,700 kgs of ration to different locations in North Sikkim from Mangan. While 500 kg of supplies were airlifted to Chungthang, 600 kg were dropped at Lachen, 285 kg at Thangu and 2,300 kg at Salem-Pakhel and Sakyong in Dzongu today.
