DC convenes coordination meeting, takes stock of restoration and rehabilitation works

GANGTOK, 20 Oct: A coordination meeting of all the district officials of the Line Departments was chaired today by the DC, East. The meeting was convened to review the restoration works of public infrastructure in the district and also to assess the status and progress of the restoration works of public utilities like power, drinking water, road connectivity, telecommunication, minor irrigation channels, health etc. in the district.
Present at the meeting were the officials from the departments of Power, PHE, Roads and Bridges, UD&HD, Irrigation and Flood Control, Building and Housing, Food and Civil Supplies, Horticulture, joint director , HRDD, DFO/Territorial, East, Chief Medical Officer, East, GREF and BSNL, informs a press release issued by the SDM, East, Dr. AB Karki.
The official from the Power Department informed that power has been temporarily restored in all parts of the East District, while works on the permanent restoration are also underway.
PHE department informed about the complete restoration of water supply in the urban areas where water was now being twice a day.
The Roads & Bridges Department, on its part, informed that except the Rongyek-Bhusuk Road, most of the roads in the district have been opened for traffic. The department however, informed that some of the roads have been opened only for light vehicles and that repairs were underway for restoration for heavy vehicles as well.
GREF reported that all the roads under its jurisdiction have been opened for all traffic in the district, the release informs.
Deputy Director, Food & Civil Supplies, informed the DC that adequate stock of the essential commodities was being maintained, while the Joint Director, HRDD, informed that all the schools have started functioning in the district with few of the schools conducting classes in shifts due to the damaged school building.
The HRD department also informed about temporary classes been built in 54 schools in the district.
CE, Buildings & Housing department, informed that assessment of damages of all the government buildings in the district has been completed and estimates for repair works were being prepared.
JD, Horticulture, reported that around Rs. 26 lakh was distributed as an ex-gratia for crop damages in the East District.
Additional CE, Irrigation, informed that repairs of around 200 Micro Irrigation Channels have been taken up by the department in East District.
During the meeting, inter-departmental issues on matters such as felling of trees, shifting of electricity poles and others among the Forest, Power and Roads and Bridges was also sorted out by the DC.
The DC directed all the officials to complete the works in the district on priority basis and called for proper coordination between the departments for speedy execution of works. He also directed the BSNL officials to ensure uninterrupted network in the district. Further, he requested the district officials to report to him on any coordination issues that might arise among the departments and also asked them to submit any proposals of land acquisition that would be required for restoration of public infrastructure at the earliest. He also informed that such coordination meetings will be held at regular intervals to monitor the progress of works, the release informs.
