NASBO calls on Sakya Trizin to take up Rathong Chu issue with Govt

GANGTOK, 20 Oct: The National Sikkimese Bhutia Organisation [NASBO], in a letter addressed to the Sakya Trizin, has requested the spiritual leader to “kindly enlighten the Sikkim Government to immediately scrap all the three proposed hydel projects on the sacred Rathongchu in West Sikkim”, informs a press release issued by the Organisation today .
Three power projects viz. Lethang HEP, Ting-Ting HEP and Tashiding HEP are proposed on the Rathong Chu. The letter states that, the Government of India has already objected to one of the three projects i.e Lethang HEP, while two days back, the Union Home Ministry constituted a committee to address the religious concerns expressed by the Sikkimese monasteries and monks.
The letter also mentions that all Buddhist organizations, monks and Buddhist devotees of Sikkim have been persistently requesting the Government to immediately scrap all these “anti-Buddhist power projects”.
