Savari tumbles off road near Rato-matey, 4 injured

GANGTOK, 19 Oct: The Jorethang Police Station received a telephonic information from BB Rai of Majitar Out Post at around 11.15 p.m. that a vehicle had met with an accident near Ratomatey, along the Jorethang-Melli Road on 17 October.
Acting on the information, the Jorethang police immediately rushed to the spot and found that a Mahindra Savari [SK-02J-0034] along with four occupants, including the driver had tumbled down the road around 600 feet and had landed on a cliff and all four had sustained injuries.
Nima Sherpa was taken to the Jorethang Hospital, while Phurba Sherpa, Passang Norbu Sherpa and the driver Sabinam Pradhan were rescued with the help of police personnel and a rescue team from the Jorethang Fire Station and Dans Energy Ltd and sent for medical treatment.
A case under section 279/337/338 [rash driving or riding on a public way, causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others and causing grievous hurt] of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the driver at the Jorethang Police Station and the case is under investigation. The vehicle was a Siliguri-Dentam service taxi.
