Second phase of earthquake relief disbursement nears completion in South Sikkim

LEFT-OUT VICTIMS INVITED TO FILE CLAIMS ON 20, 21 AND 22 OCTNAMCHI, 18 Oct: The first phase of relief distribution to fully damaged houses in the aftermath of the 18 September Earthquake was started by the Chief Minister in South Sikkim  on 23 September. As per information received from the DC (South), the second phase of the relief distribution is now nearing completion.
The second phase includes collapsed houses, damaged houses, both major and partially damaged houses, following verification and distribution at the Block Administrative Centres by the respective Block Development Officers on the basis of the assessment and verification carried out by the respective teams.
The review meeting of the BDOs was held today at the District Administrative Centre here chaired by the DC South, AK Singh.
District Project Officer (DPO), Land Revenue and Disaster Risk Management, Pempa Sherpa informed that the remaining applications for the grievances and damages will be received by the respective BDOs from 20 October onwards, while for Jorethang and Namchi the same will be conducted by Jorethang Nagar Panchayat and Namchi Municipal Council respectively.
The South District administration has also requested the left out earthquake victims to submit their damage claims to their respective BDOs on 20, 21 and 22 Oct. Upon receipt of these applications, the respective BAC teams will verify these claims within 10 days after the Diwali holidays and the relief will be dispensed accordingly.
The South District Administration has also appointed Monitoring Officer cum Magistrates amongst whom, ADC South has been appointed for Sumbuk-Namchi area, SDM Namchi for Namthang-Temi, SDM Headquarter for Sikip-Jorethang and SDM Ravangla for Ravangla-Yangyang area while Jorethang Nagar Panchayat and Namchi Municipal Council will look after their respective areas.
According to DPO, the people can directly approach the above mentioned Magistrates with their grievances, if not satisfied with the earlier assessment conducted by BAC teams. The DC South has assured that the Magistrates would personally verify the claims and grievances. It was further informed that the details of the relief distributed will be shortly uploaded in the website of the South District Administration.
