SYS defends govt’s relief and rehabilitation efforts as transparent and fair

GANGTOK, 13 Oct: The Sikkim Yuva Samaj has contended that the relief, rescue, restoration and rehabilitation efforts of the State Government in the wake of the 18 Sept Earthquake are being carried out in “the most transparent manner along with assessment of the damages. In a press release issued today, the organization adds that disbursement of relief funds was being made in the presence of the public, District Collectors, Block Development Officers and Panchayats.
SYS has strongly condemned allegations of misutilization of the relief funds and alleged that anti-social elements were trying to mislead the victims by politicizing the calamity and obstructing the relief works. 
The release informs that SYS members have been actively involved in the relief, rescue, assessment works in their respective constituencies since the earthquake and that it has also made some contributions to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
SYS contends that earthquakes were a natural calamity and have no connection with the hydel projects.
