9th Workshop on Application of Plastic in Agriculture at CAEPHT, Ranipool

GANGTOK, 02 Nov: The three-day 9th workshop of All India Co-ordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Application of Plastic in Agriculture (APA) is being organised at College of Agricultural Engineering and Post Harvest Technology (CAEPHT),Central Agricultural University (CAU), Ranipool from 04-06 November, 2011.

The centre of the APA was implemented at the CAEPHT-CAU in August 2009 by the Indian Council of agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. Need-based investigations pertaining to Sikkim agriculture/horticulture and application of plasticulture there upon were identified and research projects were initiated by deployment of faculty and staff of the college. At present, 03 investigations and one collaborative research project with National Research Center on Orchids, Pakhyang are in progress. The XII plan priorities on application of plasticulture in Sikkim agriculture/horticulture will be discussed based on site needs.

The objective of the workshop is to review the progress of research and extension activities carried out at the centres and to set the priority researchable issues for the XII plan period. The broad technical programme for the coming 2 years would be discussed and drafted for all the centres. Around 75 participants from ICAR, State Agricultural Universities and Sikkim state officials including progressive farmers and manufactures are likely to attend the workshop. It is expected that the government officials of Sikkim and others may join the workshop to supplement the requirements of plasticulture in the state, Associate Professor of the college, Dr S. N. Yadav informed.

The workshop will be inaugurated on 04 Nov at 11:00 hours at the College auditorium in the presence of , Vice chancellor, CAU, Imphal, Dr. S.N. Puri, DDG(Engg.), ICAR, New Delhi, Dr.M.M. Pandey, former DDG (Engg.), ICAR, Dr.N.Ali , ADG (Process engineering), ICAR, Dr. K.K. Singh, Project Coordinator, Dr.P.R. Bhatnagar, and other eminent personalities including Sikkim state government officials, ICAR institutes, press and media personnel. The programme is being organised by Dean, CEAPHT,Dr.P.K. Srivastava, along with Principal Investigator of APA, Dr. D. Panigrahi, and faculties/staff of the college.
