Children’s Day celebrations in West Sikkim

GYALSHING, 16 Nov [IPR]: Children’s Day was celebrated across the schools, ICDS centers and institutions of West district on 14 Nov. The children's day celebration at Lingchom Secondary School (W) was held in the presence of SMCs and guests of honour, retired Additional Director, BB Muringla, and retired Teacher, LS Yonzon.
The programme included Antakshari amongst lady teachers and senior girls along with a cricket match between male teachers and senior students.
Earlier, headmaster, Rajesh Thapa highlighted the work and contributions made by Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. He announced the introduction of different scholarships and awards for students sponsored by different people for encouraging deserving students.
The new awards apart from scholarships to class toppers and best students are Manav Sewa Puraskar for socially active students and a scientific attitude trophy for excellence in science. The two awards are being sponsored by TR Sharma and KM Sharma, respectively.
Due to a pro-active SMC and supportive public, Lingchom SS has been moving positively towards providing holistic education to the students wherein they are being trained on handicrafts, soft-toy making, woodwork and re-use of plastic and e-wastes.
