‘Kirat Connection Festival’ to begin on Saturday

GANGTOK, 04 Nov: The 2nd Triennial conference ‘Kirat Mahasabha’ of Assam Kirat Sammelan (AKS) will begin from tomorrow at Pawai Bongaon, Margheritha in Tinsukia district of upper Assam, informs a press release.
The ‘ Kirat Mahasabha’ now popular as ‘Kirat Connection Festival’ will be held at Sambha Hoisher Gompoh ground from 05 - 07 November 2011.
On Sunday, the schedule will begin with hoisting of the AKS flag by its president Pradeep Limboo and paying of floral tributes to the martyrs by the Reception Committee president, Surya Bahadur Yonjon followed by the literature and cultural show. Competitions like poem recitation, extempore speech, dhaan naach, chyaabroong dance, sakela song and dance etc will be co-ordinated by poet and writer, Siddhimaan Rai.
A symposium on ‘Issues and Reasons for Backwardness of Kirati Gorkhas’ will also be held where Associate Professor, Dibrugarh University, Dr. Rudramaan Thapa, Working President of Assam Kirat Sammelan, Mon Bahadur Subba, Working President of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh, Golaghat Dist. Committee, Yubaraj Gurung will present their papers and it will be co-ordinated by Sol Bahadur Loh(Tamang) of the NE Tamang Buddhist Association, the release informs.
Asstt. Gen Secy of the Delhi Newar Sanghathan also Central Executive Member AAGSU, Kamal Pradhan’s , amd Information and Publicity Secy., All Assam Gorkha Students Union (AAGSU), Nanda Kirati Dewan’s papers are also expected to be read out at the symposium.
In the evening, the delegate session will be held along side the cultural show.The cultural nite will feature the ‘Sakela’ dance, to be performed by native youth and directed by Siddhimaan Rai and Samar Limboo and the ‘Gorkha Khukhuri’ dance.
According to the release, the delegate session that will begin at 5 pm will unanimously and constitutionally elect a new executive body of the AKS for the next three years while the outgoing committee will present before the delegates their profile of jobs completed and taken up since they were elected at Gangapur (Dekhiajuli) Tezpur in the 1st Triennial Conference in Sonitpur district in 2008.
On 7 Nov, the open session will be held wherein tabloids of the various communities’ cultural and traditional rites will be displayed. The open session that will begin post lunch will be inaugurated by founder president of AKS, Janga Bahadur Limboo while veteran artist, Haren Subba will be felicitated for his relentless and untiring service to the Kirat culture and tradition in particular and for upholding the Gorkha spirit.
Spokesperson AKS, Chattra Maan Subba, will introduce the major dignitaries while Krishna Bikram Rana will initiate the Kirat traditional felicitation. Veteran poet from the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration, Mahakavi Mohan Dukhun will be present as the chief guest and will release the souvenir edited by Dhama Dhoj Liwang.
Union Minister DoNER, Pawan Singh Ghatowar, president Assam Gorkha Sammelan and chairman All Assam OBC Association, Moni Kr. Subba,  Information and Publicity Secretary AAGSU, Nanda Kirati Dewan Minister Power and Industries, Assam, Pradyut Bordoloi, Minister Planning and Development, Assam, Tanka Bahadur Rai, local MLA, Rameshwar Dhanwar, Zonal Secy Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh, James Pradhan, Kamal Kr. Rai of Kirat Rai Sangh of Dehradun, former Advisor Nepali Sahitya Akademi, Gyaan Bahadur Chetri, Gen Secy, Assam Gorkha Natya Sangh, Poorna kr. Sharma, Gen Secy, Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha, Madan Thapa, president of Northeast Gorkha Boudh Association, Lama Dilliram Yonzone, litterateur Jeet Bahadur Sunar are the guests of honour.
Veteran litterateur and painter of Upper Assam, Yudhbeer Rana will be the keynote speaker of the session on the subject ‘Constructive Criticism of Kirat Culture’ while AAGSU leader, Nanda Kirati Dewan is expected to speak on the subject ‘History and Origin of the Kirats in Assam in today’s Gorkha’s perspective’, the release mentions. Besides a host of speakers, invited guests and delegates from across Assam will attend the ‘Kirat Mahasabha’.
According to the information and publicity secretary of the Reception Committee of Kirat Mahasabha, Samar  Liwang , almost all major arrangements have been completed by concerned departmental secretaries inspite of small constraints and the people of Margheritha Pawai Bongoan are all set ready to extend hospitality and warm welcome to all the guests at the Kirat Mahasabha. He appealed to all sections of the society to join and extend co-operation in successfully organizing the festival of confluence and conglomeration of Kirat culture and traditions, the release adds.
Kirat are indigenous ethnic groups of the Himalayas (mid-hills) extending eastward from Nepal into India, Burma and beyond and one of aborigines and ethnic tribe of Assam. Today in Assam Singphos, Ahums, Newars, Tamangs, Gurungs all faces of Mongolian origins and tribal beliefs are considered as Kirati, the release further adds.
