National Education Day at Holy Cross

GANGTOK, 11 Nov: Holy Cross School, Tadong celebrated the Birth Anniversary of our First Education Minister of India, Moulana Abul Kalam Azad as National Education Day today.
The day long programme started with the common school assembly in the presence of teachers, students, parents and the members of the School’s Managing Committee. Sr. Jessy Mathew, the principal of the school garlanded the portrait of Moulana Azad. In her address, she gave more information about the “Right to Education (RTE)”. The school captain Hissey Ongmu Tamang read out the message from the honorable Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
The other part of the programme comprised of a rally from the school campus to Sikkim Manipal University where all the participating students were active with placards in their hand and chanting slogans on the importance of education. In a brief rest in the SMU, some of the students spoke about the importance of education in our lives. The rally returned from SMU and ended in the school campus. Students of other classes also took part in other activities held in the school that included – Drawing and Painting competition, Essay writing competition and Caption writing competition. All these competitions were held on the theme – “Right to Education”.
As a whole, the daylong programme was a huge success and the school authorities would like to extend their gratefulness to the officials of Sikkim Manipal University and Police Department for their valuable co-operation and support.
