Red Fest at TNSSS

GANGTOK, 21 Nov: ‘Positive Intervention’, an effort towards generating wider awareness on HIV/ AIDS by integrating awareness among school students, in underway in schools across the State and reached the Sir Tashi Namgyal Senior Secondary School here today.
Similar interventions by the Sikkim State AIDS Control Society have already been held at TNA, Gangtok and Sang Senior Secondary School, Martam.
The gesture was welcomed by the TNSSS principal, KB Chettri, as an apt one and was attended by around 300 students of the school.
The event under ‘Red Fest’ is an initiative to create an understanding and educate the school children on various issued related to HIV & AIDS, voluntary blood donation and substance abuse. During the 3 hour event, the students are divided into 8 groups and are engaged on various activities such as quiz competitions, minute to win it, scramble and painting competition. The paintings of the participating schools will be exhibited during World AIDS Day on 01 December at MG Marg, Gangtok.
Addressing the students, Project Director SSACS, Dr. Uttam Pradhan, explained, “The event is a medium to reach the school students as our targets are the youth and this is also an initiative to approach our youths to stay alert and aware about HIV & AIDS. The information is worth treasuring and should be spread amongst peers and society.”
