Students’ Union of Sikkim formed

GANGTOK, 17 Nov: The students of various private and government colleges and universities from in and around Gangtok came together to form an umbrella association, “Students’ Union of Sikkim” today.
The decision to form a new association was taken at a meeting convened yesterday at the residence of one Anand Biswakarma of Tadong, informs a press release. 
“The primary reason for the creation of the association is to provide better platform for the students all over the state and to pour their grievances and thus seek better redressal”, the release informs.
The meeting unanimously elected Jiwan Subba (School of Basic Applied Science at SMIT) as president, Rohan Nambiar (Govt. Law College) as vice-president, Neela Dhoj Rai (Tadong Govt. College) acting vice-president, Prem Dorjee Tamang as general secretary, Krishna Chettri as chief coordinator, Bishal Limboo (Tadong College), Prem Gurung and Kumar Subba of SMIT as joint secretaries and Anand Biswakarma as the treasurer, the release further informs.
The meeting further resolved to work on various issues being faced by the students and help them explore their potential. Also, the acting body pledged to keep a watch on the proper implementation of the programmes initiated by the government.
It was also resolved that the next meeting of the body would be held on 20 Nov wherein the members will decide upon the registration process of the association and other related matters, the release adds.
