UID sensitization programme in Yuksam and Duga

GANGTOK, 13 Nov: The Nodal Department (DESM&E) implementing the Unique Identification programme in Sikkim conducted a sensitization programme in Yuksam BAC of West District and and Duga BAC of East district on 10 November, informs a press release.
The sensitization programme was conducted by the officers of the Nodal Department to sensitize the residents of the importance of UID and to chalk out an enrollment plan. The sensitization workshop was attended by the Block Development Officers of the respective BACs, panchayats, teachers and residents of Yuksam and Duga, Central Pendam.
Along with the UID sensitization programme, DESM&E also imparted training to the teachers, panchayats and other officials on the Employees Census being undertaken by the department, the release informs. It may be mentioned here that DESM&E has been given the task of creating an employee data base with the objective to correctly estimate the number, type and nature of government employees and to assess the fiscal impact of the government on the salaries of the employees.
The release informs that the UID sensitization programme and employees census training in Yuksam was also attended by Director General, DESM&E, SD Tshering who spoke on the importance of UID programme and employees census. In his address he stressed the importance of UID to create a mechanism for ensuring last mile delivery of public services and the importance of employees database for fiscal planning.
He stated that the Government of Sikkim has attached immense importance to the UID programme and has declared to incorporate Aadhaar or UID number in all resident centric schemes and business processes of the State as well as Central government.
He also informed the gathering that the Nodal Department has been given the mandate to conceptualize and implement an Aadhaar base mechanism to augment the service delivery and governance, the release further mentions. The UID has immense possibilities through generation of unique number with which the government of Sikkim proposes to develop an effective beneficiary management system, ensure delivery of schemes to the poor and rural people, financial inclusion of the rural people, and build a robust data base for integrated management system and effective monitoring and evaluation.
