Yuksam school comes second at Regional Level Folk Dance Competition

GANGTOK, 04 Nov: Govt. Secondary School Yuksam, West Sikkim has made the state proud by bagging the second position at the Regional Level Folk Dance Competition held at Srimanta Sankaradev Kalashetra, Punjabbari Guwahati on 01 November, informs a press release.
The Folk Dance competition was organised for Secondary level students and all dances had to be based on certain themes such as: environment, charms and challenges of adolescence, drug abuse, etc. suggested by NCERT, New Delhi.
Eight teams from North-East and Eastern Region of India participated in the competition, out of which Orissa stood first, followed by Sikkim and Bihar in the second and third positions respectively, the release informs.
The Sikkim team comprised of ten members that included six students, three teachers and a team leader. The six students were  Sonu Limboo, Namita Chettri, Phungnam Hangma Limboo, Suk Maya Limboo, Nim Doma Bhutia and Anjeel Tamang accompanied by teachers , Nar Lall Limboo (Sarangi Player), Nim Lhamu Bhutia   (Singer) and Laxmi Gurung (Choreographer). The team was led by Coordinator  SCERT, Dushyant Tamang.
Earlier, SCERT, Sikkim in collaboration with National Population Education Project (NPEP), NCERT organised District Level Competitions at four District Headquarters and State Level Competition at Gangtok prior to the Regional Level Competition. Yuksam Secondary School won 2nd Position at District Level and then First Position at the State Level Competition and hence it was sent to Guwahati to represent the state.
Further the release adds, the school will be representing the State at the National Level Folk Dance Competition which will be held in New Delhi in the last week of December.
