SAMETI organises training on Advanced Technology for Organic Farming


GANGTOK, 30 Nov: State Agriculture Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organized a three-day training programme on advanced technologies for organic farming in collaboration with Extension Education Institute (EEI), Jorhat, Assam for Extension officers from 28-30 Nov, informs a press release.

Thirty Extension functionaries from the department of Agriculture, Horticulture, Natural Resource Management and ATMA from four districts attended the programme.
The inaugural session of the training programme was chaired by Director, FS&ADD, Khorlo Bhutia on 28 Nov, who in his address highlighted the mission of the government for making Sikkim an organic state by 2015 and stressed that human resource development is a major strategy, as organic farming is knowledge-based rather than an input-based practice, the release informs.
Resource persons for the training were Professor of Assam Agriculture University, Dr. Rajen Baurah and Professor EEI, Jorhat, Dr. AK Bhattacharya. During the course of the training, advance technologies of organic farming viz. role of bio-fertilizer, enriched compost technologies, Azolla cultivation, acidic soil and its management were covered by the resource persons with a special session on practical demonstration, the release further mentions.
The valedictory function on 28 Nov was chaired by Principal Director, SK Sinha. In a short speech, the Principal Director suggested that the participants take up demonstration of each technology they learnt at the training programme on the field, the release adds. He also thanked EEI for organizing such a valuable programme in the state.
While, Dr. Baurah and Dr. Bhattacharya expressed their satisfaction over the inquisitive participants and overall arrangement of the training programme.
