SSACS takes ‘Positive Intervention’ to schools in West Sikkim


GANGTOK, 05 Dec: ‘Positive Intervention’, an initiative of Sikkim State AIDS Control Society [SSACS], was organized at Yuksom Secondary School and Lingchom Secondary School, both in West Sikkim, on 01 and 02 Dec, respectively, informs a press release.

The Intervention at Yuksom Secondary School coincided with the observation of World AIDS Day 2011. In the opening address, the Headmaster, S Acharya briefed the faculty, students and the Red Fest team about the theme of World AIDS Day 2011.
The theme ‘Getting to Zero’ he expressed, spoke volumes of the focused resolve of the global community and policy makers to address the pandemic. Elaborating on the broader meaning of the theme as Zero New HIV Infection, Zero Stigma and Discrimination, and Zero HIV & AIDS related deaths, he ascertained that Yuksom Secondary School will take all possible steps to make the theme a reality, the release mentions.
He maintained that Yuksom Secondary School has been actively involved in activities concerning HIV & AIDS and Voluntary Blood Donation. He also commended the sincere efforts of the nodal teacher and students of the’ Red Ribbon Club’ in the school.
Thanking SSACS for choosing the school to host the programme, he stated that “‘Positive Intervention’ in the school on the significant occasion of World AIDS Day could be no less than ‘Divine Intervention”.
Students of standard six and above were treated to fun-filled activities such as Positive Quiz, Positively Minute and Positive Impression, the release mentions.
Similarly, the Red Fest team visited Lingchom Secondary School on 02 Dec. All the teachers of the school, and students of standard six and above were engaged in the two-hour programme held at the school playground, the release further mentions.
In his opening remarks, the Headmaster, Rajesh Thapa expressed his gratitude towards SSACS for organizing the ‘Positive Intervention’ in Lingchom Secondary School, and encouraged his students to take optimum benefit from it.
He informed the gathering on the commendable work carried out by the students of the Red Ribbon Club, and the special role of the Nodal teacher, TR Sharma in all the initiatives. He reminded that students of the ‘Red Ribbon Club’ had participated in the various events under ‘Red Ribbon Sikkim Star’, organized by Sikkim State AIDS Control Society in 2010-11.
At the end of the programme, the Headmaster gave away prizes and certificates to the participants of ‘Positive intervention’. The Programme also had the presence of SIA, West, IPR Department, Government of Sikkim, Simon Subba.
