Teen suicide

GANGTOK, 02 Dec: An 18-year-old girl, who had been missing since 28 October, was found dead in the forest near her home at Bhotay Gaon, Luing, near Gangtok. She had committed suicide by hanging.

Preliminary investigation by the police has revealed that the teen had gone into the forest on 28 November to collect fodder, never to return. A frantic search by her family members and neighbours could not locate her and it was only yesterday that her body was found hanging from a tree in the Upper Luing jungle.
The child, it is learnt, had to drop out of school early to attend to household chores and look after her younger siblings. Police records further reveal that this had left her depressed, a condition which had obviously grown chronic leading to her death by her own hands.
