Another vehicle torched, this time in Jorethang


JORETHANG, 04 Mar: In another case of arson and vandalism in the State, miscreants tried to set fire to a parked vehicle in Jorethang. On the night of 02 March, at around 11 PM, a Maruti Gypsy belonging to one JS Lama, parked near the Motor Vehicle office at Jorethang was set ablaze.
According to Police sources, police personnel patrolling the area noticed smoke coming from the parking lot and immediately informed the police station and the owner of the vehicle when they saw that the car was on fire.
It is further informed that the vehicle was partially burnt and a case has been registered at the Jorethang Police Station.
Similarly, a day earlier, on 01 March, a Mahindra Scorpio belonging to one PB Rai of Sombaria, West Sikkim, bearing registration No. SK/01/P/2414, was set on fire at midnight.
It may be mentioned here that JS Lama of Jorethang, it is learnt, is a supporter of Upper Burtuk MLA, PS Tamang. Following the incident, the situation in Jorethang had grown tense, coming as it did on the eve of the 2-day SDF foundation day to be hosted there, and IRBn and SAP personnel were deployed to ensure law and order following the incident.
