CBSE exams begin

GANGTOK, 02 Mar: The Central Board of Secondary Examinations [CBSE] exams for the students of Class X started from today [the board exams for class XII had begun yesterday]. The examinations are being held in over 36 centres, including five new ones, informed Joint Director, Exams, Human Resource Development Department, IK Chettri while speaking to NOW! today. Between the two – CBSE class X and XII – a total of 11,986 students are taking the exams this year.
The CBSE examinations for the children studying in Class X started from today, while the examinations for the students of Class XII began from yesterday, stated the JD, Exams and added that this year there were 36 centres where the examinations are being conducted, including 05 new centres. For the students of Class X the examinations began with the Mathematics paper, while for the Class XII students the examinations began with the English Core paper, he further informed.
The 36 centres where the Board examinatiions are being held all over the State are Tashi Namgyal Senior Secondary School, Deorali Girls SS, Paljor Namgyal Girls SS, Tadong SS, Penlong SS, Ranipool SS, Sang SS, Samdong SS, Singtam SS, Rangpo SS, Central Pendam SS, Rhenock SS, Chuchachen SS, Dickling SS, Mangan SS, Phodong SS, Namthang SS, Ravangla SS, Namchi Girls SS, Namchi SS, Sadam SS, Temi SS, Pelling SS, Soreng SS, Gyalshing SS, Hee Yangthang SS, Sombaria SS, Mangalbarey SS, Hee Gyathang SS, Dentam SS, while the five new centres [West-3, East-1, South-1] are Tashiding SS, Kaluk SS, Chakung SS, New Namchi SS and Ranka Dhajey SS. This year, the Deorali Girls SS examination centre has been exclusively kept for private candidates.
A total of 5,062 students are appearing for the class XII exams of which 4812 are regular while 250 are private students. In class X, a total of 6924 students are appearing for the board exams of which 6724 are regular while 200 are private students, it is informed.
In 2011, the pass percentage for class XII was 82% and for class X it was 85%. In 2012, the pass percentage is expected to rise to 85% in class XII and 98-100% in class X, it is further informed.
The examinations which began today for the students of Class X will end on 26 March and have examination papers in five subjects, while the examinations which began yesterday for students of Class XII will end on 16 April and has papers in various subjects as there are different streams, stated the JD, Exams.
