Hishey opts to take oath of affirmation in Nepali


NEW RAJYA SABHA MP ATTENDS JOINT SESSION OF PARLIAMENT
GANGTOK, 12 Mar: Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, Hishey Lachungpa today took oath of affirmation in the Rajya Sabha on the first day of the Budget session of the Parliament.
A press release from the MP’s office informs that Mr Lachungpa, the only new member in the current session in the Upper House, chose to take the oath in Nepali before Vice President Hamid Ansari who chairs of Rajya Sabha.
Also present in the Rajya Sabha were Prime Minister Dr. Man Mohan Singh and other Union cabinet ministers who are members of the Upper house of the Parliament along with the leader of the Opposition, Arun Jaitley.
Before the oath ceremony and his first session in the Rajya Sabha, Mr Lachungpa also attended President Pratibha Patil’s address to members of both the houses in the Central hall of the Parliament, the release mentions.
Family members and close friends of the MP also witnessed the swearing in ceremony from the Visitors gallery in the Upper House.
Mr Lachungpa was elected to the lone Rajya Sabha seat in February this year. A Government of India gazette notification from the Union law and Parliamentary Affairs had declared him elected to the Upper House on 24 February, 2012.
