Shop and watch Sikkim artisans at work at DHH

GANGTOK, 11 May: Chief Minister Pawan Chamling today inaugurated the Sikkim Spring Carnival segment at the Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom Complex.
The special exhibition at DHH is being jointly organised by the Sikkim Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation [SHHDC] Limited in collaboration with the Horticulture & Cash Crops Development Department [H&CCDD] under the National Bamboo Mission.
The CM along with his entourage were received by BK Kharel [Commissioner-cum-Secrretary, Commerce and Industries Department] and Ganga Devi Pradhan [Director, Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom] and taken around the stalls where an exhibition-cum-sale and live demonstration of artisans with their Bamboo products and other ethnic crafts of the State are being showcased by various non--governmental organisations [NGOs], self help groups [SHGs] and government organisations.
Also, this special event is a unique and first-of-its-kind as it has various departments like Forest, Tourism & Aviation, Commerce & Industries, Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom, Horticulture & Cash Crop Departments, SRDA, corporations and NGOs conglomerating and working under one umbrella to showcase the achievements and results of the various schemes promoted and implemented by the State government towards the rural artisans and weavers.
A special corner has been set to display the unique tools and equipments used by the primitive Lepcha tribe in their daily lives, such as hunting, fishing, and musical instruments as well as daily household kits made up of Bamboo and Stinging nettle [Sishnu].
The event will showcase the magnificent traditional crafts and arts of the State made from local materials and local artisans and weavers from various corners of the State have been brought together under one roof to display and sell their products.
Apart from this, the Corporation has assisted and provided a special place to Chimi Ongmu, Designer from NIFD, Delhi to display her unique handicrafts of the State.
The Sikkim Spring Carnival will continue till 15 May.
