ONLY FINANCIAL CONSTRAINTS HOLD HIM BACK

SAGAR CHHETRI
GANGTOK, 25 June: It was the happiest moment for Deepak Gupta of Singtam Bazaar in East Sikkim when he received a confirmation letter last week from his dream University, UK based Staffordshire University of direct admission to the university.
Deepak got the direct admission to Staffordshire University on the basis of his design of an eco-friendly vehicle which works on the principle of Electro Magnetic Induction Magnetism [EMIM], which he unveiled in November 2010, when he was studying in class XI in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Rabong in South Sikkim.
After getting featured in various local and national print and electronic media, he also got an offer from an UK based Virgo Communication Limited in May last year to conduct further research for a period of two years with a monthly financial package of 7400 British pounds but he declined the offer to complete his senior secondary education.
After completion of his schooling this year, he applied to Staffordshire University for BE Honors in Automotive Engineering course in May. He also sent his eco-friendly car design, newspaper cuttings of the coverage of his car design along with his personal, teacher’s and principal’s statement.
In response, he received a letter confirming his direct admission in the university last week. The letter also mentions, that “he also successfully met the criteria of the Staffordshire University Scholarship Scheme of 1000 Pound for the academic year 2012-13”.
Speaking to NOW! today, Deepak said that Staffordshire University is one of the reputed and best universities in the field of vehicular engineering and equipped with all advanced instruments and materials required for students. He further added that this university charges reasonable fee in comparison to other universities.
“To study in this university is my dream and when I received the letter of getting direct admission in my dream university I felt that my dream has come true,” said Deepak. He mentioned that he had spent many years in designing the eco-friendly vehicle, which helped him further his dream.
Deepak mentioned that it is very difficult to get admission in this university but he got direct admission in the university without an entrance or any other test.
He informed that the university has also considered his case and decided to charge around Rs 25 lakh for the whole course instead of the normal fee of around Rs 60 lakh. He added that the university is even offering him 1000 pound scholarship in the first year.
Deepak stated that for the admission and other purposes he needs around Rs 10 lakh immediately and after joining the university he would try to support himself by doing some part time jobs. He needs to complete his admission process by the end of this month.
Mentioning that it would be difficult for his family to meet the expense of this course, he appeals to the State Government and well wishers to support him in fulfilling his dream.
