SKM opens constituency-level party office at Parkha

GANGTOK, 07 May: Sikkim Krantikari Morcha opened a constituency level party office for Gnathang-Machong constituency at Parkha near Pakyong yesterday in the presence of dissident SDF MLA Prem Singh Tamang [Golay] and working president Bharati Sharma.
While addressing the gathering, Ms. Sharma alleged that the Sikkim Democratic Front party president, Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, has not come through on his claims of having worked for the empowerment of women in Sikkim. The SDF party has instead targeted women leaders with crude character assassination attempts, she alleged further.
SKM vice-president, Bhojraj Rai, in turn argued that the Rai community was not communal by nature, but has been instigated towards that direction by the SDF chief. To preserve the Sikkim’s secular credentials and ensure peace and tranquility, the SDF government has to be thrown out, Mr. Rai contended.
Krishna Bahadur Gurung, who has resigned as ward Panchayat of Parkha after he was elected last November, alleged that the duty of elected Panchayats was not sycophancy of the area MLA and other leaders but service of the people. This, he said, was not encouraged by the SDF.
SKM’s Jacob Khaling further alleged that the SDF government has blatantly violated provisions of Article 371 F of the Constitution of India and diluted Sikkimese identity.
