Indra Jatra in Gangtok

GANGTOK, 18 Sept: Members of Newar community from across the state came together today to celebrate Indra Jatra 2013 in a grand manner here in the capital. The celebration, organized by the Sikkim Newar Guthi, started with the puja and Tika-Sagun at Bhanu Park early this morning.
This was followed by the main attraction of the festival, the chariot procession, which attracted a strong attendance. The living goddess Kumari, considered to be an incarnation of the goddess "Taleju", is taken out in a procession in a chariot. Today’s procession here saw the photograph of the present Kumari being carried around the capital.
The procession started from Bhanu Park with the crowd dancing and singing all along the route.
From Zero Point the procession turned towards Bhanu Path, along the Sonam Gyatso Marg to Sadar Thana, Titanic Park and Hospital Dara before it finally ended at Mannan Kendra.
