Sikkim juniors all set for Dr BC Roy Memorial Trophy

GANGTOK, 16 Sept: A 20-member junior boys’ team is all set to represent the state in the 49th edition of Junior National Football Championship for Dr BC Roy Memorial Trophy 2013 to be held at Bokaro in Jharkhand from 19 to 28 September.
The team, led by the coach, Anil Tamang and team manager, Ujjwal Baraily will be leaving for the championship on Tuesday.
The state team has eleven players from Sikkim Himalayan Sporting Club and nine players from Boys’ Club.
The team has Birendra Gurung as captain, while other members of the team are Hem Bahadur Gurung, Roshan Prasad, Amos Thapa, Raman Subba, Yenten Gyatso Sherpa, Nikhil Raj Rai, Roshan Pradhan, Dawa Lhendup Sherpa, Dependra Rai, Buddha Sherpa, Rojert Lepcha, Lakpa Dorjee Tamang, Sadesh Limboo, Suman Rai, Sanchaman Rai, Lha Tshering Lepcha, Ong Tshering Sherpa, Sangey Chokpal Bhutia and Bipen Rai.
Sikkim has been placed in cluster B along with Gujarat, Chandigarh and Tripura in the championship organized by All India Football Federation. Sikkim will be playing its first match against Gujarat on 20 September, followed by another match against Chandigarh on 22 September and the last match against Tripura on 24 September.
Sikkim Football Association has organized a 10-day coaching camp at Paljor Stadium under manager, Mr Baraily and coach, Mr Tamang.
Addressing the team members this afternoon at Paljor Stadium, SFA president BK Roka urged the players to maintain discipline and to play their best in the championship.
Likewise, SFA general secretary Menla Ethenpa explained that following the direction of the AIFF, the SFA conducted the selection process for this championship in a different way. Following AIFF directions, the SFA was compelled to select players from SHSC and Boys’ Club, which were registered with the SFA.
Mr. Ethenpa mentioned that this time Sikkim has been placed in an easy cluster so there are greater chances for the team in the championship. SFA has provided senior experienced players as the coach and manager for better results, he added.
Speaking to NOW! team coach, Mr. Tamang said, “The team is all set to give its best performances in the championship. The training sessions were held from 10 AM to 12 noon and then again from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM regularly. The training camp has helped these players to improve their speed and techniques”.
