Two cases of sexual assault 6-YEAR-OLD MINOR AMONG THE VICTIMS

GANGTOK, 23 Sept: Two cases of sexual assault have been reported in the state in the past two days.
A 6-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by one Kul Bahadur Tamang [65] in West Sikkim, it is informed. The accused was working as a carpenter in the victim’s house. The accused has been arrested by the Gyalshing police and a case under section 376 [punishment for rape] of the Indian Penal Code read with Section 4 of Pocso Act [Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act] has been registered against him at the Gyalshing Police Station.
Meanwhile, under the Mangan Police Station, a verbal report was received from a 27-year-old woman stating that on the intervening night of 17 and 18 September, she was sexually assaulted by one Samba Bhutia [23]. During the time of the incident the victim was alone at home. However, she did not tell anyone about the incident.
On 21 September, gathering courage, she told her husband about the incident. Accordingly, her statement was taken in writing and a case registered at the Mangan Police Station under section 451/376 [house-trespass in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment, punishment for rape] of the Indian Penal Code and the accused has been arrested.
