Governor’s greetings on Gandhi Jayanti

GANGTOK, 01 Oct: Governor of Sikkim, Shriniwas Patil and the first lady, Rajanidevi Patil extend their warm greetings to the people of Sikkim on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
In his message the Governor has said “Gandhi Jayanti holds a special place in the heart of every Indian in particular and every person in the world. Born in an honest and religious family on 02 October, 1869 at Porbandar in Gujarat, Gandhiji gave a new meaning and direction to the freedom struggle in India. The path of truth (Satyagraha) and principles of non-violence (ahimsa) greatly influenced other freedom movements in Africa and Asia.
In today’s world, affected by terrorism, fundamentalism and materialism, Bapu’s path of truth, non-violence, compassion and simplicity become all the more meaningful and relevant. It is no wonder that the United Nations celebrates this day as the International Day of Non-Violence.
On this historic occasion of the birth anniversary of Bapuji, let us re-dedicate ourselves and be committed in serving the country with honesty, dedication and with utmost integrity, and to serve the poor and the needy for achieving Swaraj or self rule which Bapu had dreamt of.”
