Sunday records 5 UDs

GANGTOK, 21 Oct: A total of five cases of Unnatural Deaths [UD] were registered at various police stations across the State on Sunday, 20 October. While three were suicides, two deaths resulted from accidents.
At Sepi basti under Uttarey Police Station, a 48 year old man committed suicide by hanging from a tree. Preliminary investigation suggests that the deceased has been suffering from depression for the past few months, his condition reportedly worsened by the burden of a debt he was under.
Elsewhere in West district, at Chingthang [Sagbari] under Kaluk Police Station, a 25 year old man committed suicide by hanging in a poultry farm there.
Meanwhile in Singtam, the dead body of a 58 year old woman, a resident of Ghurpisey, Namchi, reported missing since the morning of 15 October from Namchi, was recovered from the banks of the Teesta near 20th Mile, Bardang on Sunday. It is suspected that she committed suicide by jumping into the river.
Under the Gyalshing Police Station, a 28 year old woman, resident of 5th Mile, Khechopari had gone to shop for groceries at 7 p.m. but did not return home. At around 9 p.m., her husband and the villagers started a search for her. At 11 p.m. they discovered that she had fallen to her death from a village road overlooking a cliff.
Under the Sherathang Police Station, the Sadar police informed that around 2 p.m. Phurba Sherpa, constructing a shed for puja with villagers at 4th Mile, JN Road was electrocuted when he accidentally touched a direct line above with a GI pipe. He was evacuated to STNM Hospital in Gangtok but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
