Wushu martial artists excel at NE Jeet Kune Do tourney

GANGTOK, 20 Oct: The Sikkim Amateur Wushu Association [SAWA] team has brought back a rich haul of 11 medals from the 2nd North East Jeet Kune Do Championship 2013 held at Kokrajhar in Assam from 11 to 14 October. Each martial artist of the 11-member SAWA squad bagged a medal, the tally including 4 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze medals.
Binita Rai, Arjun Tamang, Mukesh Singh and Rakesh Singh fought their way to gold medals, while the silver medalists were Som Bahadur Tamang, Sangay Lama Tamang and Raishul Haq and bronze medalists were Kinchok Gurmee Bhutia, Ajay Mere, Ashish Kumar Gupta and Ugen Lama Tamang.
Binita Rai was also adjudged the Best Fighter among senior women and awarded a cash prize of Rs 20,000.
Likewise, Arjun Tamang also awarded with the Best Fighter trophy in sub-junior and received a cash prize of Rs 10,000.
All eleven medalists have now qualified for the upcoming 27th National Jeet Kune Do Championship scheduled to be held in Gujarat from 27 to 31 January next year.
The team was accompanied to the tournament by coach OS Singh.
