Children’s Day in South Sikkim

GANGTOK, 14 Nov: On the occasion of Children’s Day almost all schools, private and government, in the South District organized programmes in their respective school premises. Melli Gumpa Secondary School organized a programme in which Melli Block Information, Education and Communication (IEC) sponsored a debate competition on ‘Sex education in school’.
Apart from that, a brief talk was also given to students on ‘Adolescent reproductive and sexual health’ which was delivered by Sonam G Bhutia who is the Health Educator of Melli PHC. To mark the event in a more meaningful manner a documentary film on Right to Education (RTE) by filmmaker Bhuwan Sharma was also screened for the children and teachers of the school. The debate competition was won by the team that spoke for the motion who were presented with prizes.
Similarly, Government Secondary School at Kamrang, South Sikkim also observed the day in a grand manner. The Children’s Day celebration also included presentation of Gold Medal Award to AISSE 2013 topper Angel Manger. The Joint Director HRDD Namchi was the chief guest during the celebration who presented the award to the topper. On the occasion the headmaster of the school MV Pounrajan highlighted on the importance of the day.
