Consultation workshop held on enhancing institutional and community resilience to Disasters and Climate Change

GANGTOK, 01 Nov [IPR]: State consultation workshop on Enhancing Institutional and Community Resilience to Disaster and Climate Change was held here in the capital today.
Organized by Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority, Land Revenue & Disaster Management Department, Government of Sikkim, with support from Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India and UNDP- India, the inaugural secession was chaired by the Secretary, Land Revenue & Disaster Management Department, K S Topgay.
In his inaugural address Mr. Topgay gave an overview of status of Disaster Management and Climate Change initiatives in the state and also hoped that the workshop will not become a mere regular exercise, but will be fruitful and productive.
The work shop which was attended by the concerned department as well as the line departments saw a comprehensive discussion with a power point presentation on topics like Mainstreaming of Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation, where the identification of entry points for mainstreaming, development of guidelines for mainstreaming, capacity building of government and non government and elected representatives were discussed in detail along with geographical coverage, scope of the programme, key programme components and management and implementation arrangements.
Urban risk reduction, technical assistance and capacity building initiatives, knowledge management and enhancing resilience of vulnerable communities were also comprehensively discussed, by the project officers, Ashok Malhotra and Prabha Mishra of UNPD-India.
Special Secretary, Land Revenue & Disaster Management Department, Sonam D Chankapa presented an overview and activities of Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority.
