GOVERNOR’S GOLD CUP 2013 MMC-Nepal down ONGC Mumbai in nail-biter

GANGTOK, 13 Nov: Manang Marshyangdi Club [MMC] of Nepal has also secured a place in the quarterfinals of the ongoing 34th All India Governor’s Gold Cup Football Tournament 2013 here at Paljor Stadium. In the nail-biting last pre quarter-final match today, MMC defeated ONGC, Mumbai 2-1.
The local crowd was all for MMC as they cheered them on waving the Nepal national flag. Both teams played their hearts out right from the start launching attack after counter attack. There were some closes misses where both teams could have taken the lead in the match.
The match ended in a goalless draw and was extended by 30 minutes extra-time to decide the winner. Soon in the extra-time, Anil Gurung scored the lead for MMC in the 95th minute but the ONGC bounced back with an equalizer from Fanai Lalmuanpuia in the 107th minute.  However, in the dying minutes of the extra-time, Sujal Shrestha scored the second and winning goal for MMC.
Today’s match also witnessed some aggressive moments. The referee flashed yellow cards to Sachin Gawas, Asim Hassan and Karan Atwal of ONGC and also to Anil Gurung and Sulav Maskey of MMC.
Now, MMC will take on Royal Wahingdoh FC Shillong on 15 November in the quarter-final round.
On Wednesday, the first quarter-final match will be played between Tata Football Academy and Mumbai Tigers at 2 PM.
