Road mishap claims one in South Sikkim

NAMCHI, 17 Nov: One person was killed in a road accident on Saturday evening on the Namchi-Jorethang stretch.
At around 6:30 PM Saturday evening, a Hyundai Eon car bearing registration number SK-04P-3269 met with an accident at Denchung, Namchi-Jorethang stretch, killing 54-year-old Ongchu Lepcha of Namchi on the spot. Three others were injured. Among the injured are Meshak Rai, PurnaTamang and Dorjee Tamang.
The car was returning from Jorethang after watching the ongoing CM’s Gold Cup at Jorethang and was driven by Purna Tamang. Jorethang Police with the help of locals rescued the injured who were brought to Namchi district hospital. The injured have been referred to Gangtok.
The autopsy was carried out today after which the body was handed over to the family. The deceased was an employee of RM&DD.
The car belongs to one Sallaudin Md. of Namchi, South Sikkim and Purna Tamang had it borrowed it for the day. The police has registered the case under section 304 (A) at Jorethang Police station and the investigation is under process.
