Sikkim students fleeing HGPI arrive home

GANGTOK, 18 Dec: Students from Sikkim who recently fled from their course at the Himalayan Group of Professional Institutes, Himachal Pradesh, have now reached home. The group of around 45 students reached Siliguri last evening and today made their way to Sikkim. The students informed that they reached Siliguri late at night on 17 December and today made the journey to Sikkim to their respective homes.
The next step, they inform, is to organize themselves and have a meeting in Gangtok and subsequently approach a public official to push their case for an alternative professional institute where they could be provided admission. They are due to meet in a day or two. The students informed that they would like the State government to take up their case and provide them with admission in another college or institute so that they could continue their studies.
The Sikkim students had earlier decided to forego their studies at the HGPI, Himachal Pradesh after being harassed and allegedly threatened by a group of students from Haryana. Last week, they had made their way to Delhi where they stayed at the Sikkim House and were assisted by MP Hissey Lachungpa.
