SSB celebrates 50th Raising Day

GANGTOK, 20 Dec: The 52nd Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal [SSB] deployed at Yangtey celebrated the 50th anniversary of the force today.
A press release informs that on the occasion inter-company volleyball competition and open badminton competition was organised. Dy Commandant, Sachin Kumar congratulated all the members of the force and their families on the occasion.
The jawans displayed their skills in the various stalls put up which was followed by the ‘Badakhana’ at the Battalion HQ and all the border outposts of the unit deployed along the Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan borders, the release mentions.
SSB was raised on this day in 1963 in the wake of Chinese aggression and to undertake various programmes like national integration programme, medical civic action, veterinary civic action and to inculcate a sense of security among the masses along the Indo-Pak and Indo-China borders. In 2001, the force was assigned the duties to guard the Indo-Nepal border and in 2004 it was assigned the duties to guard the Indo-Bhutan border.
