‘ONGC’s Swavlamban Abhiyan’ distributes free aids in North Sikkim

MANGAN, 06 Feb: Sixty persons with disabilities were provided with free aids and assistive devices at Mangshila, Panchayat Ghar of North Sikkim on 05 February.
The distribution of free aids was done under the CSR initiative ‘ONGC’s Swavlamban Abhiyan’, a collaborative effort of the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India [ALIMCO] , a Government of India undertaking under Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd [ONGC] with the support of North District Scheduled Caste Welfare Association [NDSCWA].
The ONGC and Kanpur-based ALIMCO had inked an agreement valuing Rs 250 million for the first phase of the ONGC’s Swavlamban Abhiyan in early December last year.
An assessment camp to shortlist beneficiaries was earlier held on 20 December last year at Mangan. Out of 116 people who attended the camp, 60 were given wheel chairs, hearing aids and other aids on 05 February.
The programme was attended by Panchayat president of the Mangshila GPU, Dilli Ram Limboo as chief guest, President, NDSCWA, Naku Tsh Pariyar and members, Panchayat secretary and local gentries and the scrutiny was conducted Dr. Rajeev Ranjan from STNM. The remaining patients will be provided with aids as soon as the supplies arrive from Guwahati.
The beneficiaries were taught on the use and care of the equipments. The chief guest, Mr Limboo said that this is a great initiative taken up by the ONGC and NDSCWA for the physically challenged of the district. He informed that other remote areas of the district will also be covered.

He also informed that the subsistence allowance for beneficiaries of North district has not yet been received and the matter has been placed to the Chief Minister.
