SDF accuses SKM of kidnapping and arson

GANGTOK, 21 Apr: Sikkim Democratic Front party members of Gangtok constituency have filed an FIR against Sikkim Krantikari Morcha workers, accusing them of kidnapping and arson on 18 April. SKM Gangtok candidate, Pintso Chopel Lepcha and former Gangtok Mayor, KN Topgay have been accused of masterminding the incident.
The FIR alleges that six SKM party workers, acting under the direct orders of Gangtok SKM candidate and the former Mayor, torched a vehicle in DPH area on the night of 18 April. The vehicle, the FIR states, was used for campaigning by SDF.
On the same day, SDF workers Santosh Rai, Paul Darjee, Prem Kumar Tamang and Ritam Lepcha were allegedly “kidnapped” in a hotel room at DPH area by the SKM workers who threatened them and beat up one of the SDF supporters, it is alleged. The SDF workers later managed to escape, it is mentioned. The same SKM workers are then accused of torching the vehicle belonging to one Sonam Palzor later at night. The vehicle was parked at the bridge near the police booth at DPH. It is alleged that Chandra Chettri, one of those named in the FIR, was spotted on his motorcycle near the place where the vehicle was parked at around 1:30 a.m. in the morning of 18 April by a police patrol team.
The party has alleged that other complaints against some of the SKM workers have also been filed in the past where no action was taken. It has further demanded a detailed investigation into the alleged kidnapping and arson incident. SDF has demanded the arrest of all the accused. The party will also be filing a separate complaint to the Election Commission of India regarding the issue, it is informed.
