SKM secretary general attacked near Namchi

NAMCHI, 01 Apr: Another incident of pre-poll violence has been reported from along the Namchi-Jorethang stretch. The vehicle of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha secretary general, MK Subba, was allegedly attacked by SDF supporters when he was travelling down to Jorethang. His vehicle was pelted with stones at 9th Mile near Namchi. Mr. Subba and his driver were injured and are under medical examination at Namchi district hospital. An FIR has been lodged against SDF youth leaders by the SKM at Namchi Police Station and the case is under investigation. Some of the accused were taken into custody and released on bail later in the day.
Meanwhile, an SKM press release issued by its general secretary Nari Morcha, Pabitra Bhandari, informs that weapons [like iron rods] were recovered from the vehicle of the accused. The release goes on to protest the easy facility with which the accused made bail. The release has questioned the role played by Sikkim Police in handling such situations and allegedly favouring ruling party cadre.
The release informs that Mr. Subba was travelling to Namchi when his vehicle was attacked at around 10:15 a.m.
